A CITY OF PARMA COUNCIL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, former Mayor James W. Day served as Mayor from 1962 through 1967. Prior to that time, Mr. Day served as Parma Councilman for eight years and as a member of the Parma Zoning Board. He was the Chairman of Building, Planning and Zoning Council Committee; and,
WHEREAS, former Mayor James W. Day took office when the City of Parma was struggling to keep up with a growth spurt. The population jumped from 28,000 to 82,000 during the previous decade making Parma the fastest growing city in the United States. Leaders were charged with catching up with the rampant growth and providing services for the new residents; and,
WHEREAS, Mayor James W. Day helped obtain the Crile Veterans Hospital site and the Coast Guard 32 acre site on York Road and saved the land from being a cemetery, Coast Guard housing, mental hospital and poverty school. It ultimately brought the western campus of Cuyahoga Community College to Parma; and
WHEREAS, Mayor James W. Day's involvement with the City of Parma spans his lifetime; and,
WHEREAS, the Parma City Council believes that it is important to recognize the outstanding achievements of former Mayor James W. Day;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARMA, STATE OF OHIO:
That this Council of the City of Parma hereby designates and officially names the city park known as "Nike Site Park" located in Ward 7 to "James W. Day Park" in the City of Parma.
